A Visit to Macy's in Philadelphia to see the organ in the Wannemaker Building

Kevin Walsh, Host

The organ is on the left and the pipes are directly in front and to the right.

The swell shutters are in the three dark "rectangles" above the angel on the pipes.

In early June, Ginny visited Macy's and heard some concerts. So the photos above are from that trip.

Westchester Count, N.Y.June 25, Twelve members and friends of the chapter traveled to Philadelphia for the Wanamaker Organ Centenary Festival held at Macy's Department Store. They attended three concerts played on the Wanamaker organ, one of which included the Philadelphia Brass and the Friends of the Wanamaker Organ Festival Chorus. They heard part of Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto performed by pianist Jeremy Filsell and Wanamaker organist Peter Richard Conte. They also attended the showing of a silent film accompanied by Peter Krasinski. Before returning home, the group crawled through two floors of pipes and had an opportunity to examine the console and the stage.-- Virginia Bender
